Highlight Problems of Tribal Communities through Research – Com. Najubai Gavit
Com. Najubai Gavit, a renowned social activist inaugurated the one day workshop on “Socio-economic and Cultural Variations amongst the Tribals” organized by the College on 29th July, 2017. She expressed that the current trends are that researchers conduct research sitting in air – conditioned offices. She laid stress on the fact that researchers should reach the tribal villages, and homes of the Tribals and through interaction with them identify their problems and issues. In his presidential address Dr. Jalindar Adsule, Principal mentioned that it is crucial and extremely important to re-visit the issues of Tribals as their lives have undergone a lot of transformation, as a result of which new issues have emerged. He said that many of the Tribals no longer reside in forests and their traditional occupations related to forests have also changed.
This was followed by a presentation by Prof. Gopal Nimbalkar on the findings and conclusions of the research project on “Socio-economic and Cultural Variations amongst the Tribals in Khandesh”, which was sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi. Prof. Bhimsingh Valvi from Eklavya Centre of North Maharashtra, Nandurbar and Prof. Puspha Gavit from Dhule also shared their views and experiences on the topic. Dr. P.M. Vasave chaired the session. Dr. Sanjeev Pagare proposed the vote of thanks.
Thirty – two participants including teachers, students and social activists participated in the workshop.
